Obituary for

Wayne Nathaniel Meadows, 85 years old, passed away in his sleep at his home in Houston, Texas, following a long illness. Wayne was born on August 9, 1930, to Virginia Dare Meadows and Benita Inez (Dudley) and he grew up in Longview, Texas where attended Longview High School and Kilgore College before moving to Houston.

While in Kilgore College, he ran the Longview Water Purification Plant. He also worked for Kelly Plow Company in Longview, Texas, building and designing machinery. While attending the University of Houston taking mechanical engineering courses, he ran the Water Purification Plant in Pasadena, Texas.

In Houston he worked for and retired from Brown & Root where he helped design and build offshore platforms, and pipe lay barges. Known affectionately as “Uncle Wayne” he was always willing to help colleagues and mentor the younger staff. Some people go to school to become engineers and some have God given talents; Wayne was the later.

His interests included internal combustion engines, especially diesel engines. He was also interested in steam engines and he helped people rework and repair all types of steam engines, even the ones used in cotton gins.

He had a love for Black Smith work. After retirement, he owned a Black Smith Shop in Old Town Spring just north of Houston. He took orders for specialty Black Smith items, large and small. He served as President of The Texas Black Smith Association.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jerry Rea. He helped raise a step-son, H.T. Rea. H.T. is married to Joyce Rose and they have two sons, Hunter and Chase. He also has a step-daughter, Joerine Sellers married to Bill Sellers and they have two married daughters, Sheri and Gayla. Wayne also has a daughter from a previous marriage, Donna Marie Meadows.
Wayne is preceded in death by his sisters: Virginia Fowzer; Delores Lomax; and Lucretia Gunn. He has two living brothers, John Dudley Meadows (married to Mattie ) and Glenn Curtis Meadows (married to Martha Judd). He has numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held in Longview, Texas, at Memory Park Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3rd, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
